You'd hear certain notes making your hair stand-up in a certain way. We're always looking for ways to breathe new life into stuff. But you always go back to that core it's always in there but you reinvent.Ĭhino Moreno: It's a little bit of both. When you play the songs from White Pony, does it take you back to when you wrote the songs and what they meant to you when you were writing them or are these songs upheld to be reinterpreted in the present day?Ībe Cunningham: You always go back to where they came from but I guess after twenty years in this particular album, having playing these songs over and over, you find new ways to give them life. Read on as Chino, Abe, and Frank talked more about White Pony, working with Terry Date, and their unfinished album Eros. With the current worldwide situation caused by Covid-19, the band had to cancel their North American tour dates and currently rescheduling it for next year. For this new release, Deftones reunited with producer Terry Date, who also produced White Pony. People were paying attention.” The band will be releasing a new album soon. Chino described it like as if they were in a whirlwind-from the day the album was released and when they were touring it. Their lives were quickly altered with the success of White Pony. We were just going with it,” remembers Chino. It was pretty awesome and the outlook that we have on what was to come, we really didn't know. “The day of the release we played in New York City and we did a signing. In an online press conference, Deftones’ vocalist and guitarist Chino Moreno, drummer Abe Cunningham, and turntablist Frank Delgado started off by reminiscing about the day when they released White Pony. It’s one of those iconic releases that you’d still catch yourself listening to from time to time especially if you’re a fan of the alternative metal and nu metal genre. It’s been 20 years since Deftones’ White Pony was released by Maverick Records, the third studio album from the California-based band.
